The Muslim community in Quebec is terrified by the terrorist attack on the Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec (CCIQ) in Sainte-Foy. Six congregants were killed and more than eighteen were wounded and being hospitalized.
We ask Allah SWT to accept the victims and grant them mercy. We ask Allah to grant the wounded quick healing and to give patience to all affected families and loved ones.
Al-Madinah Center expressed its extreme concern over the escalated racism and bigotry against minorities in Quebec especially Muslims. This deadly attack cannot be an isolated act simply. Islamophobia has no place in our country, and we are observing escalating attacks on the Muslim communities cost to cost.
We are calling on Quebec police to thoroughly investigate this terrorist and barbaric attack on CCIQ as a potential hate crime and to move quickly to bring the perpetrators of the criminal act to justice.
I urge all our community members to exercise increased caution and report any suspicious individuals / activities to the authorities immediately. Furthermore, we will be implementing immediate safety measures to ensure that all members are safe and can perform their obligations in peace.
