Al-Madinah Camp highlights the importance of getting our campers out every day and stretch their muscles. We start our days with some indoor reading, talk, discussion to gain better understanding of self-esteem and the importance of having a healthy soul. They enjoy a daily trip up the hill or down to he park.

There is something deeply special about the month of Ramadan — a month where every good deed is multiplied, where the gates of mercy are flung wide open, and where the act of feeding a fasting person carries a reward that most of us can barely imagine. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever feeds a person breaking his fast will earn the same reward as him, without anything being lessened from the reward of the fasting person." (Tirmidhi) Read that again. The same reward — without taking anything away from the one who fasted. SubhanAllah.

At Al-Madinah Center, we are working to make sure that no one sits down to an empty table at iftar this Ramadan. There are families in our community — real people, your neighbors — who will break their fast with whatever little they have, or sometimes with nothing at all. Your donation, no matter the size, can change that. It can be the reason a child smiles when the adhan of Maghrib is called. It can be the reason an elderly man or woman doesn't spend iftar alone and hungry.

Allah ﷻ reminds us in Surah Al-Insan: "And they give food, in spite of their love for it, to the poor, the orphan, and the captive." This was the description of the people of Jannah — not people who gave when it was easy, but people who gave even when they loved what they were giving away. That is the standard we are invited to rise to, especially in these blessed days.

We are almost certain that when we stand before Allah on the Day of Judgment, none of us will wish we had given less. So let this Ramadan be different. Let it be the one where you chose to feed someone for the sake of Allah, with no expectation in return. This verse indicates that the pious attain the pleasure of their Lord, the Exalted and Majestic, and succeed in proximity to Him. The wise believer turns toward goodness and what aids him in it, strives for what pleases his Lord and draws him nearer to Him, avoids actions that distance him from his Master, and beware of approaching what would cause him loss in this world and the Hereafter.

Among the understandings is that a person should be clear about his affairs: he knows when closeness to something is beneficial and useful, so he draws near to it, and when closeness to something is harmful and unbeneficial, so he distances himself from it.

The greatest closeness is closeness to God, and God has praised those who compete in seeking proximity to Him, describing their state as: {They seek means of access to their Lord, as to which of them would be nearest, and they hope for His mercy and fear His punishment}.

And He, the Exalted, said: *{And the forerunners, the forerunners - *Those are the ones brought near [to God]}*.

It is well known that the degrees of closeness to God Almighty vary according to the rank of the one drawn near:

1. The angels - peace be upon them: God honored them with servitude to Him and made them among the close ones, as described in: {The angels brought near [to God]}.
2. ⁠And all the prophets and messengers are the lords of the close ones, and God described His prophet Jesus, peace be upon him, as: {Distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to God]}.
3. ⁠As for our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, he is the closest of the close ones to God Almighty and the highest in status with Him.

Closeness to God Almighty is the true strength that the servant possesses. God Almighty said in bestowing favor upon His prophet Moses, peace be upon him: {And We called him from the right side of the mount and brought him near, confiding [to him]}. For that closeness is what aided Moses, peace be upon him, in overcoming what befell him in confronting Pharaoh and the magicians.

It is incumbent upon the servant to learn what draws him near to God, makes him honored with Him, attains His pleasure, and distances him from His displeasures, as the prophet of God Salih, peace be upon him, said: {So ask forgiveness of Him and then repent to Him. Indeed, my Lord is near and responsive}.

Among the greatest things that bring about closeness to God is the servant's remembrance of his Lord, and to the extent that he remembers Him, so is his closeness to Him. In the Qudsi Hadith, God Almighty says: (I am as My servant thinks of Me, and I am with him when he remembers Me). Obediences lead to Paradise, and sins draw near to the Fire. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: (Paradise is nearer to one of you than the strap of his sandal, and the Fire is likewise).

It is obligatory upon us to seize our lives in obedience to our Lord so that we do not regret at our death an hour that passed from our life in which we did not draw near to our Creator. And let us know that our closeness to God and attaining status with Him, and the position and favor, is the happiness of this world and the Hereafter. In distance from Him, the Glorified, is the greatest loss, the most severe regret, and the utmost misery.

O God, we ask You for Paradise and what draws near to it in word or deed, and we seek refuge in You from the Fire and what draws near to it in word or deed. And we ask You to make every decree You have decreed good for us, O Lord of the worlds.

O God, Amen🤲

Another year has passed, and Allah has allowed us to witness Ramadan once again. How many hoped to reach this month but did not? Alhamdulillah for this blessing. We ask Allah to grant us long life in obedience, to fast its days, stand its nights in prayer, and accept from us our deeds. 🤲

As always, Al-Madinah Center will be hosting Taraweeh prayers and offering daily Iftar for our community. Sharing food with those who are fasting is a great reward, as the Prophet ﷺ said that whoever provides Iftar for a fasting person receives the same reward without reducing the fasting person’s reward.
