The money collected will be used to buy and distribute food baskets and distributed to needy people.<\/strong> we have the largest food basket program in Montreal. In previous years, we participated in the distribution of 400 – 600 baskets. This year, the goal is to distribute 500 baskets.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The basis for that is the report narrated from Ibn \u2018Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: \u201cThe Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined zakaat al-fitr, a saa\u2019 of dates, or a saa\u2019 of barley, upon all the Muslims, slave and free, male and female, young and old, and he commanded that it be paid before the people went out to pray.\u201d Agreed upon; this version was narrated by al-Bukhaari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Abu Sa\u2019eed al-Khudri narrated: \u201cWe used to pay zakaat al-fitr when the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was alive, a saa\u2019 of food or a saa\u2019 of dates or a saa\u2019 of barley or a saa\u2019 of raisins or a saa\u2019 of dried yoghurt.\u201d Agreed upon.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
