We stand in solidarity with CCIQ. The shooting in the mosque in 2017 translated an accumulation of hate waves that were spread across the western world. Yet, this shooting triggered a strong wave of support from the majority of Canadian(ne)s and Quebecois(es).

Now after the sentence that was issued for Alexander Bissonette for his horrible crime against the whole Muslim society and Quebec society at large, we are opening our doors and hearts for the community at large to come and join us in denouncing all hatred and bigotry in this country. Al-Madinah Center is participating in the yearly Muslim Awareness Week that was initiated to remember our martyrs every year.

What is Muslim Awareness Week?

Muslim Awareness Week (MAW) is a yearly initiative spearheaded by Quebecers of Muslim faith to build solidarity and get to know one another. Behind this effort is an opportune moment for people of all ages, backgrounds, and beliefs to learn about the achievements, contributions, aspirations and concerns of Muslims living in Quebec. Starting January 25th through January 31st, we invite people to join the first edition of the week by participating in activities that will take place throughout Quebec. The goal: Getting to know each other!

Why Muslim Awareness Week?

Despite the solidarity witnessed after the tragic events of January 29th, 2017 at the Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec (CCIQ), Quebeckers of Muslim faith, are still struggling to make themselves understood and to find their righteous place within the society. Thus, MAW is a moment of the year to get to know each other and move beyond our perceived barriers.

Who is initiating Muslim Awareness Week (MAW)?

Quebecers of Muslim Faith looking to promote a message of solidarity and togetherness calling on various organizations and individuals to organize open houses, inter-faith dialogues educational events, and activities about inclusiveness.
