Al-Madinah Center is our community center at the heart of downtown Montreal (QC, Canada) offering social and educational services tailored to serve children, youth, families and elders. We aspire to establish an institution that provides leadership, charisma, and power to promote the true role of the Canadian Muslim.

Scholarship Program 2017
Al-Madinah Center is offering several scholarships pursuing a graduate degree in one of Montreal universities. If the major of study contributes to the well being of the Muslim community, it would be a definite asset. Scholarships offered by Al-Madinah Center are primarily available for Montreal-based Muslim students. We are very aware of the need for these scholarships which not only help students financially, but recognize their potential to be responsible citizens and community leaders in the fabric of the Canadian / Quebec society at large. We are most grateful to all those who have made it possible for us to help Muslim students to further their education.Al-Madinah Center is committed to offering as much aid as students’ need and to encourage Muslim students to apply every year, even if they have won before. In this way, you can be helped all the way through your education. The money granted MUST be used at any university level across the province of Quebec.
Open Scholarships and Grants 2017
- AES001 – Academic Excellence Scholarships
- One (1) $1,500 scholarship for graduate students per year
- Two (2) $1,000 scholarships for undergraduates per year

The complete applications are due no later than 11.59 pm of the deadline date by email only (grants@almadinah-center.org). Any late application will be disregarded automatically. An acknowledgement email will be sent to you automatically right at the reception of your email to ensure that your application has arrived.
We do not only consider complete applications as eligible for the selection process. If your application is not complete, it will not be considered and we will not ask for missing documents.
The selection committee of every grant convenes yearly at the respective date to choose wining applications. The selection committee rank all eligible applications for every scholarship / aware and pick the top applicant (s) based on the established selection criteria.
It is always a pleasure and a challenge to decide on the scholarship winners from the many outstanding candidates who apply. The decision of the selection committee is final. The Scholarship Committee considers academic background and achievements, the financial situation and the commitment to community of each candidate, as well as examining the student’s goals and aspirations, and letters of reference.

Academic excellence scholarships
These scholarships recognize the academic excellence of university graduate / undergraduate students with a proven track of achievement at a higher studies institute in Montreal. The scholarship is non-transferable and applies only to tuition payment. The scholarship is offered on a competitive basis only.
How to apply?

- A proof of acceptance as a full-time student in a recognized Montreal University (or proof of continuation of studies for returning students in one of the Montreal universities)
- Academic commitment (Where applicant’s qualifications are the same, preference may be given to students planning to enter a 3 or 4-year program).
- Academic achievement (Maintain a minimum (A-) in all semesters of study to which the scholarship funding is applied or scholarship is repayable) or a proof of previous academic achievement for new students.
- One letter of reference from a university teacher / high school teacher / CEGEP teacher
- An unofficial transcript or records for the last degree or last two years of study (an official record will be required if applicant wins the scholarship)
- A commitment to the community is a great asset
Education of Women
Al-Madinah Center would like to support Muslim women with limited financial resources for their studies and tuition. We aim that this grant offers Muslim women enough support to enter graduate studies without having to worry about high tuition costs. Successful candidates must demonstrate high motivation and must also provide evidence of financial difficulties.

Financial Need Scholarship
This scholarship recognizes the financial hurdles facing some Muslim students during their university studies. We do firmly believe that higher studies must be accessible to aspiring students whose financial situations might not allow them to continue their higher studies.
How to apply?

- the Muslim community in Montreal; and
- the Canadian society at large.
- A proof of family financial constraints
- A brief letter outlining the need for financial assistance
- A proof of acceptance as a full-time student (part time might be also considered in certain situations) in a recognized Montreal University (or proof of continuation of studies for returning students in one of the Montreal universities)
- Academic commitment (Where applicant’s qualifications are the same, preference may be given to students planning to enter a 3 or 4-year program).
- A proof of application and acceptance of maximum available government student funding for which they are eligible. If all funding if offered in form of a loan that was rejected by the applicant, the applicant will be also considered.
- You MUST maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher if you are an undergrad or graduate student for every quarter or semester in which you are enrolled.
- One letter of reference from a university teacher / high school teacher / CEGEP teacher
- An unofficial transcript or records for the last degree or last two years of study (an official record will be required if applicant wins the scholarship)
- A commitment to the community is a great asset
Community service Scholarship
Supporting social initiatives is one of the major strategic goals of Al-Madinah Center. Two grants of $500 each are offered yearly to support new social initiatives serving the Muslim community in Montreal or the Montreal community at large.
It is a definite asset that the applicants are current volunteers Al-Madinah center or other local mosques / community center in Montreal. However, this is not a necessary condition.
In order to qualify for this grant, the applicants need to submit:
- Please fill in the application form.
- A letter of recommendation for active volunteering at a local mosque / community center / or a non-profit institute in Montreal / for no less than 5 hours weekly
- A letter outlines the past, present and future commitment to the initiative being launched. It shall outline the clear and strong commitment to offering an innovative initiative that will contribute and improve the quality of life of service recipients.
- A letter of support from a community leader / supervisor / mentor …
- A proof of academic achievement (a minimum of 3.0 GPA for the two main applicants at least)
Youth grants
This scholarship expresses our commitment to support Muslim youth in Montreal with financial support to enhance their learning experience during their studies in high school or CEGEP. We firmly believe that success in high school highly correlate with life success afterwards. They can use this grant for study related projects or to launch an innovative initiative at their high schools or CEGEPs.
Academic excellence and community based accomplishment is highly urged for this grant application. To qualify for this grant, applicants must be:
- Canadian Muslim resident / citizen.
- enrolled in a Montreal high school or CEGEP
- willing to contribute to the Muslim community at large during or after your project
- able to find a mentor to guide them during the implementation of the project.
- The grant does not cover more than 50% of project costs unless applicants demonstrates a dire need for finance to make the project a success
